Parents' Code of Conduct

The participation of all parents is essential to provide a positive experience for the skaters and professionals. We ask that LWC parents strongly support the Lakewood Winter Club Mission Statement and the total program philosophy.

It is essential that parents:

  1. Are positive in constructive criticism of LWC programs, professionals, and skaters and are willing to volunteer their time and services to improve it. Present their opinions and criticisms to LWC officers and board of directors at regularly scheduled meetings or in writing.

  2. Provide volunteer labor to promote LWC, its programs and competitions.

  3.  Refrain from un-sportsmanlike conduct. Un-sportsmanlike conduct is defined as any verbal or non-verbal action which diminishes the fun and enjoyment of skaters or spectators around you.

  4.  Recognize that the skaters are children and not professionals. They need encouragement and not criticism.

  5.  Applaud a good skating performance, ignore errors, and encourage a greater effort, initiative, and dedication. Always congratulate achievement and encourage improvement - no one is a loser!

  6.  Refrain from barrier coaching. Barrier coaching causes confusion, disrupts the practices, and puts additional unnecessary pressure on skaters. The general rule will be: if you have concerns regarding coaching or philosophy, talk to your professional in private and express your opinion.

  7.  Recognize that professionals are NOT volunteers. Teaching skating is their profession.

  8. Recognize that judges and officials ARE volunteers  giving of themselves to provide positive skating experiences. Refrain from blaming judges and officials for poor performance.

Addendum to Codes of Conduct
Adopted January 16, 2008

The Lakewood Winter Club(LWC) and its members will not engage in any course of conduct designed to harass another skater, skating parent, or coach.

The LWC and its members will not participate in making groundless accusations to other members.

The LWC will not recognize any form of communication that is done in an anonymous nature.
