Coaches' Code of Conduct

The professional must be a leader. All professionals must recognize they hold a position of trust and responsibility in a program that deals with a sensitive and formative period of a skater's development.

It is required that professionals have understanding, patience, and are able to work with children, parents, and other professionals. The professional should be able to inspire respect. Above all else, professionals must realize they are helping to shape the physical, mental, and emotional development of young people.

Lakewood Winter Club (LWC) professionals are honest, fair, and respectful of each other.

In addition, Lakewood Winter Club coaches will:

  1. Support the LWC Mission Statement.

  2. Show professional standards of conduct and respect the rights of others to hold values, attitudes, and opinions different than their own.

  3. Promote LWC activities and events with conscientious participation and encourage skaters to participate in all LWC activities.

  4. Provide sound teaching techniques, keeping current on rules and regulations.

  5. Be cooperative, responsible, and dependable.

  6. Encourage team spirit in all LWC members.

  7. Encourage good sportsmanship in all skaters and their parents.

  8. Be courteous to all skaters, staff, and parents.

  9. Put aside own personal technique preferences and give credit to all techniques used successfully.

  10. Give full attention to the skater, taking the professional role seriously.

  11. Be supportive of all LWC skaters and coaches.

  12. Help all skaters from LWC, if needed.

  13. Encourage LWC skaters to participate at their true level with realistic goals. Be honest regarding the development of each skater.

  14. Keep informed and educated by attending seminars, classes, etc.

  15. Never solicit another professional's students.
